Drinking In SA started in the spring of 2016 with a broke girl's love for cocktails and a strong desire to be bougie on a budget.
New to the downtown San Antonio area (but certainly not new to the city itself), I wanted to know where all the best happy hours were. Where could you get a solid cocktail without blowing your paycheck? Which spots would let you wet your whistle and curb your hunger? And, perhaps most importantly, how could you have a great night out without spending a small fortune?
So, I did what any reasonable person would do: I researched. I scoured the internet and called (yes, actually picked up the phone!) bars, restaurants, and hotels all over 210 to find out about their daily deals and drink specials.
That research became Drinking In SA Vol. 1, an alphabetical list of happy hours across San Antonio, along with karaoke spots and nightly trivia games. Because what's a night out without a little friendly competition and questionable singing?
Of course, a website is only as good as the people who find it, so I launched the Drinking In SA Instagram. Within a year, it had grown to more than 4,500 followers. Between Instagram, writing for the San Antonio Current, and a monthly blog, Drinking In SA started getting enough attention that the broke girl behind it landed an actual job in the alcohol marketing industry.
And then, naturally, the blog fell by the wayside. Fast-forward eight years, and Drinking In SA is back!
It's bigger, better, and the mind behind it has evolved, with a filterable list of some of the best happy hours in San Antonio and beyond. The blog is also back to document the places, drinks, bars, restaurants, events, and adventures worth knowing about. In San Antonio, and beyond!
